Looking for a unique weekend getaway for the whole family? Join us on a memorable donkey trek through the beautiful Albera Nature Park! Side by side with our friendly donkeys, you’ll follow scenic trails past ancient menhirs and dolmens, surrounded by the scents of thyme, rosemary, and wild lavender – a true and authentic Mediterranean experience. Away from the crowds, these paths are wonderfully peaceful and quiet, allowing you to fully enjoy the beauty and tranquility of nature.

For those who love being close to nature, you can spend the night under the stars in a tent. Prefer a bit more comfort? We also offer accommodation in a cozy Casa Rural, a charming local guesthouse.

There are route options for everyone:

For active hikers: a longer trail leading to the picturesque village of Rabos.
For beginners and families: a shorter, more relaxed route to the nearby village of Espolla.

Our treks are designed to be accessible and enjoyable for all. We walk mainly on wide, gentle paths with minimal elevation, making the experience perfect for kids as well. In fact, young children can often ride on the donkeys during the journey!

Route Detail

Destination: Donkey Ranch – Espolla / Rabós
Distance: Up to Espolla / up to Rabós 14–16 km (depending on route option)
Elevation: +280 m / -360 m

We begin our adventure at the Donkey Ranch, where you’ll get to know your gentle four-legged companions and learn how to care for and guide them. This introduction ensures that both you and your donkey feel comfortable as a team.

Once the donkeys are packed, we set off at a relaxed pace through olive groves, vineyards, and untouched nature on the way to Sant Climent and Espolla. Those opting to continue on to Rabós will enjoy a picnic by the riverbank, where the cool, clear waters of the Orlina invite you to take a refreshing swim. If we’re quiet and lucky, we might even spot turtles sunbathing along the shore.

After a delicious picnic and a well-deserved siesta, the trail gently climbs past an ancient dolmen to a mountain pass. From here, a stunning valley opens up, offering breathtaking views of the sea in the distance. We then descend through wild, tranquil landscapes, accompanied by the soothing sound of the river, until we reach Rabós – the perfect ending to a beautiful day of hiking.

Elevation: +270 m / -200 m

After a hearty breakfast, we’re refreshed and ready for the journey back.

Our trail begins through the charming streets of Rabós, then leads us out into the countryside towards Espolla. We pass vineyards and centuries-old olive groves, taking in the rolling landscapes and tranquil atmosphere.

Beyond Espolla, the path begins a gentle ascent rewarded by sweeping views of the surrounding mountains. Soon we reach the Menhir de la Mutra, the largest standing stone in the region – an impressive and historic spot where we pause for a delicious picnic.

We continue at a leisurely pace, surrounded by the fragrance of wild herbs. Along the way, we pass an “Estany,” a rainwater pond, and a fascinating dolmen, a megalithic monument steeped in history and mystery.

Following the river, the route brings us back to Sant Climent and finally returns us to the Donkey Ranch, where we conclude this memorable adventure.
